Short-form charter
The Charter.
A compact statement of who Kitsune Innovation Labs is, what we believe, and the principles that shape the systems we build.
Who we are
Research made visible.
Kitsune Innovation Labs builds a family of free, open, self-hosted products — drawn from one design language so they feel like one city, not five apps wearing similar colours. We are an institution with a runner's heart.
We are the research made visible — bold, honest, proud, real, and fluid as water reshaping in the light of the foxfire. We answer to no vendor, no cloud, no investor.
What we believe
Principles before polish.
- Made from the culture, not for it. The community papers are our constitution; the reference worlds are footnotes, not sources.
- FOSS and DRM-free by default. No paywalls, no cloud lock-in, no rights-reserved assets.
- Trust is not a security model. Honest state everywhere — fail shows as fail, unknown as unknown, never a fake green.
- Per-user secrets via an admin UI, never hand-edited env files.
- One city, many rooms. Every product registers a tab in the KitsuneOS console.
Our motto
知は務め
Knowledge is a sacred duty. Research, reasoning and trade-offs should not disappear behind the finished product.
The family
One ecosystem, many roles.
KitsuneOSThe body — the operating system.
TenkoAIThe spirit — the agent control plane, the Oracle's Study.
ByakkoThe guardian — the security watcher that walks the walls.
KitsunebiThe flame they are all drawn in.
A simple test
Can the user still make it theirs?
That question sits underneath the Lab's work: not just whether a system functions, but whether it leaves room for understanding, adaptation, repair, expression and ownership.
Full charter lives in the kitsunelabs repository. This page is the short form.
